October 2018 saw Throwback’s maiden voyage hailed a huge hit as we welcomed guests to enjoy a sold-out three-night luxury 80s party cruise.
Our cruises don’t just replace the usual onboard entertainment programme, but instead Throwback transported passengers well and truly back to the 80s.
With headline performances from a string of artists including The Human League, OMD, Erasure’s Andy Bell, and Jason Donovan, guests joined the party and were determined to have fun celebrating the fabulous and flamboyant pop music of the 1980s.
Among the guests onboard Throwback were a selection of national and international journalists and you only need to read their reviews to see just how amazing Throwback was!
We were delighted to welcome onboard international cruise specialists and travel writers John Roberts and Colleen McDaniel. John and Colleen are based in the USA and travel the world reviewing cruises for a number of publications and blogs.
In their review for leading travel website Cruise Critic they described Throwback as: “A righteous three-day cruise back in time, a journey that pays homage to the stars and sounds of a decade.
“For three full days, ’80s fans were fully committed to the cause, celebrating with other fans, sharing drinks and dancing anywhere they found space.”
And writing for acclaimed website Cruise Fever they said: “The party starts as soon as we hit the pier to board our ship. And it doesn’t stop until more than three days later, late into the last night, mere hours before passengers are due to get off at the end of the cruise.
“This three-day cruise is a wall-to-wall 1980s pop, rock and synth-pop celebration, with almost every detail of the ship and onboard programming designed to immerse all of us in that era.”
Southampton-based journalist Hilary Porter reviewed Throwback for Newsquest South East and totally immersed herself in the 80s experience: “I might easily have climbed in a DeLorean time machine from 80’s movie Back to the Future for I was encased in a spangled, neon bubble of Lycra, Frankie Says T-shirts, mullets, memorabilia and magical 80’s music from the moment I stepped on board this fantastical pleasure cruise.
“Huge fun and totally unforgettable…it really was ‘The Boat That Rocked’!”
And luxury hunters Nothing But joined our passengers to enjoy the party to the full and their reviewer Dan Cole was determined to have a ball: “Partying the night away into the early hours, this whole trip was so much fun.
“With a great atmosphere, SO much fancy dress, and all the food you could eat, this is a concept we can’t wait to see again!
“This was definitely one of – if not THE highlight of 2018 for us!”
